Tesla Inc. said that it has received requests for information, including subpoenas, from the Justice Department, and disclosed a range of fresh legal problems in a filing Monday.
These included Justice Department requests for documents related to Tesla’s
TSLA,
Autopilot and Full Self Driving, the company’s suite of advanced driver-assistance systems for highway and urban driving, according to the filing.
The company also received requests for information, including subpoenas, “regarding certain matters associated with personal benefits, related parties, vehicle range and personnel decisions.”
The Wall Street Journal reported in August that the building of a “glass house” for Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk in Austin, Texas, was under investigation.
Tesla went on to say that to its knowledge, “no government agency in any ongoing investigation has concluded that any wrongdoing occurred.”
Other legal entanglements spelled out on the document included litigation related to claims that Tesla’s repair and service practices violate federal antitrust and warranty laws. Reuters reported in July that Tesla had a “secret team” to suppress driving-range complaints.
Tesla shares rose 1.1% in midday trading Monday, poised to snap a three-day losing streak. Headwinds for the stock include a third-quarter miss for the company and the gloomy tone of a call with investors last week.
Tesla’s stock has gained 75% so far this year, however, compared with an advance of about 10% for the S&P 500
SPX.
